PART A:
The Twitter expert connect assignment was a great learning experience for me in which I learned about how to gather information from experts on social media. My topic was about teen bodybuilding and whether or not it was safe to do. I followed mostly fitness experts and physiologists, however there were some college professors and PE teacher too. Here is the list of users that I followed.
All of these people were capable of answering at least one of my questions. They all have also helped me gather information for my genius hour project on the same topic. I requested slightly different information from each person, but it all generally related to the topic of teen bodybuilding. All of the questions were asked as public tweets with an @ in front of the person’s name so that they were tagged. All of the information I received will help me in my genius hour project because it’s on the same topics.
PART B:
I mostly found out that hardcore bodybuilding for teens would have a negative effect on growing bones. However, they did say that light training can be very beneficial to growing teens. Not everyone responded to my question, but the responses that I did get were very helpful. Again not everyone followed back but a few did. None of the experts offered more assistance but some did continue the conversation. This process can be used in the future to gather more information for projects and presentations. It’s a very direct and firsthand way of gathering knowledge and is very useful for the future.
